Medina Memorial Announces Hospitalist Program
Medina Memorial Announces Hospitalist Program

On August 1st, Medina Memorial Hospital introduced a new hospitalist program. Hospitalists are doctors who have advanced training and experience in the special medical care needed by patients during a hospital stay. They treat only hospitalized patients and do not see patients outside of the hospital setting. Therefore, they are able to develop expertise in the more acute, complicated care needed by patients in the hospital with more severe conditions.
Patients in hospitals with hospitalists have immediate access to the physician. Thus, they tend to have shorter hospital stays, lower costs, better outcomes, and increased satisfaction. Hospitalists are on-site around the clock and are, therefore, available quickly to see patients and meet with family members. Patients may see the hospitalist more than once a day, and issues or emergencies can be efficiently handled with tests and follow-up treatments ordered in immediate response to a change in condition. The hospitalist updates the primary care physician regularly on the patient’s progress, thereby promoting consistency of care.
Primary care physicians will also enjoy the advantages of the hospitalist program. They will gain more time with their office patients and will be able to concentrate their efforts on outpatient medicine. Therefore, the hospitalist program at Medina Memorial will expand the ability to provide high-quality care to the region.
“We are excited to be able to offer our patients the benefits of a hospitalist program,” said James Sinner, CEO of Medina Memorial Health Care System. “Hospitalists at Medina Memorial Hospital will partner with our primary care physicians to deliver exceptional, high quality compassionate care for our patients. We believe it promises a great benefit to our patients, and it’s an asset for physicians also.”
