When emergencies happen, you need to know that you will get the high quality emergency care you need at any time of the day or night. Medina Memorial’s Emergency Room Health Care Team is there for you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Health Care Team Our Emergency Department is staffed by professionals with specialized training to assure you of the best care possible. Certifications of various staff include Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Neonatal Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
Patients are cared for by Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and physicians. Your personal doctor will be contacted if admission to the hospital is necessary, or at the discretion of the Emergency Department Physician. On-call specialists are also available for conditions that require a specify medical expertise.
Triage Triage is a process used for identifying medical conditions that require immediate attention or special equipment.
Patients arriving in the Emergency Department are seen by a nurse who assesses patients to identify conditions requiring immediate attention, and to prioritize care based upon the patient's circumstances. Because patients are prioritized based on the urgency of specific individual needs, it is not always possible to see people on a first come, first serve basis. Staff make every effort to minimize waiting for patients. Patient surveys show that 83% of our patients are seen by a doctor within 15 minutes.
Testing The Emergency Department physician may order laboratory tests or x-rays. These tests take time to be collected, processed and interpreted. Staff make every effort to complete this testing as quickly as possible, and to keep the patient and family informed of any delays. A decision regarding treatment or admission cannot be made until all test results are back and interpreted by the physician.
Visitors Providing high quality care, protecting patient confidentiality and minimizing wait times are the primary concerns of the Emergency Department. We will do our best to keep family members and friends advised of the patient's condition and progress. Generally, two family members of the patient are allowed to visit at a time. There may be exceptions to this based on the patient's condition.
